Paul has completed 3 of the 4 levels needed to earn the Horticultural Technician Red Seal certification, and is on track to complete his final level in the next two years. Paul’s training, experience and understanding of garden cultivation and management is what truly makes him a leader in the industry. His ability to identify the origin of issues, determine proper solutions and not mask or prolong issues means your lawn and garden will flourish for years to come. By recognizing signs of nutrient deficiencies, like specific strains of weeds in problem areas, allows Paul to properly fix issues effectively and efficiently.

More about Paul.

Paul was raised on 5 acres of woodland on Salt Spring Island on the west coast of Canada. Growing up in that environment led him to develop an appreciation for plants and wildlife. As a child, he enjoyed helping in the family garden. It was this love for gardening which created a foundation for his knowledge of plants that he continues to develop. Paul is fluent in both English and French, with Spanish developing as well. After high school, he worked as a chef, bartender and soon found landscaping as the career he wanted to dedicate his life to. He spent 6 months in South America where his understanding of Spanish blossomed, he also learned a considerable amount of Portuguese and confirmed his adoration for travel and Latin culture. He returned to Canada (after a month in Europe following the 2006 FIFA World Cup) with a desire to earn a living while traveling abroad. He discovered scuba diving in Sechelt, where he spent a year studying marine biology, communications, and quickly advanced through PADI, scuba courses to become a specialty SCUBA Instructor boasting 17 specialties. He spent the following 4 years teaching SCUBA out of the Dominican Republic, British Virgin Islands, Mexico and Vancouver, BC. He always kept house plants, even when working aboard dive boats. Soon to become a father, He moved back to Canada in 2012, settled in to Victoria and began working in landscaping. He decided to pursue studies at the Horticulture Center of the Pacific. He has completed levels 1, 2 and 4 of the Horticultural Technician Red Seal certification, and is on track to complete level 3 within 2 years. After working for private companies, the grounds department at UVIC, and owning/operating Vision Landscaping with a business partner, he recently decided to launch Magnusson Landscaping. He is excited to grow his business alongside the growth of your lawn and garden! Paul is an involved single father, he spends half his time with his daughter and all his free playing music, watching live shows, camping, and cultivating rare species of plants.

“There’s no greater joy than the sound of my daughter’s laughter and seeing my clients plants, lawn and gardens flourish.”
